What is this thing everyone calls Agile? If you have been doing software development a different way your whole career you may be wondering why should I change, what’s so different? In this introductory talk we will define why Agile is more than a process or methodology; it’s really a different approach to doing software development.

Track, evaluate and report on deliverable status from multiple sources in a cross-functional, geographically-distributed team environment. PMP certified professional (2011) and MBA graduate from Sam Walton school of Business(2015).

Mike Carey, CSP, CSM

Mike has been with Walmart for seven years, starting as an ISD Programmer in the Item File area. Mike developed on several key initiatives in Item File over the course of four years, but grew weary of the bittersweet success that was almost always sandwiched between war rooms and projects to mostly fix what was just released. He had what he called an infomercial moment: “There’s got to be a better way!” Mike earned his Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification in 2011 and attended his first Agile conference in 2012. He became a full-time Scrum Master in June of 2012 and founded the Agile User Group (now the Walmart Agile Community) shortly after. In addition to leading Item File’s transition to an all-Agile approach in 2013, Mike began helping other teams adopt Agile processes. In December 2013 he became one of the first two Agile coaches within ISD. He has helped organize two Agile Summits at Walmart – in 2012 and 2014 – and presented at the Agile Alliance #Agile2014 conference. He earned his Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) certification in 2014, and he has spent the last year and a half coaching Walmart teams across ISD in Bentonville and Virginia, as well as Mexico, Costa Rica, and the UK. Mike has a beautiful wife, Alice, and three exuberant children, Ben, Eleanor and Gus.
